about katia and kyliemac original version (VO)

about k&k original version (VO)

The crazy idea for the Katia and Kyliemac podcast (original version) came about on a cold and wet Friday afternoon in Ikea (after a number of free coffee refills in the Ikea restaurant and a heated discussion about Captain Jack Sparrow). The poor Muffin Man didn't know what he was in for when we looked at each other and said, "why DON'T we do a podcast?"

We couldn't think of any reason not to. So we did!

We recorded our first episode in August 2006, as an off-the-cuff "as long as it's fun" kind of thing, with one episode a week. But within a couple of months, it transformed into a living and breathing entity that has evolved significantly since those early episodes. Now it is a sort of free-flowing chat about our lives and our adventures, as we sit around the coffee table and eat m&ms.

We now put up two episodes per week, and we also regularly welcome guests into the Coffee Table Studio to participate in the show.

We're the first bicultural anglo duo to podcast out of Paris - a combination of elements which makes every episode an interesting glimpse into cultural differences (such as peeps and egg on pizza) and culture shock (like language fluff-ups and keeping your hands above the table).

So why do we do this show?

Firstly, we both have a little something we like to call "the diva gene". Secondly, it gives our mums a way to keep tabs on us. And thirdly, it has totally changed our views of France and life in Paris. From the very first episode, we started looking at things differently, and we both appreciate our experiences on a totally different level. And if nothing else, at least we have a way of venting after all our dramas with the French administration and when the visa police come to visit.

The Katia and Kyliemac podcast original version is the cornerstone of the Katia and Kyliemac Empire. After a year and a half of fun, we decided that we wanted to expand it further... and that was how k&k tourist tips and k&k learn french were born...

We'd be doing the show if it was only our mums who were listening, so it just tickles our fancies that there are other people out there who like to tune in, and it's almost as if we're having a chat with everyone out there. Here's what some of our lovable listeners have had to say about the show :

I love it, and I love the energy that you make us feel when we listen to you!
- Maria

Katia and Kyliemac's podcast is like being part of a conversation, not just something you listen to. Imagine sitting at the kitchen table with a couple of friends who are cool to hang out with, they are fun, edcuated, inquisitve and always finding something new and exciting to do or talk about. You never know where the conversation is going, but you know it will be fun.

I've been following the girls ever since day one of their podcast and not only are they just ridiculously funny but quite informative as well. If you want some insight into an expat life in Paris then you really have to listen to these girls.

It really does feel like us listeners have a special invite to a conversation between you two and sometimes f(w)abulous guests!

If you are tired of K&K, you are tired of life.

Varying from the inane to the insightful, Katia and Kyliemac give an insiders look at the life of an expat living in France... I have learnt so much more than I ever could about France and the epxat experience from any book, video or teacher. What makes this podcast even more engaging are the different interpretations of both women on what life in france means and is for them and how it's different than the ways that they grew up.

If you like listening to two silly and hilarious girls chatting about everything and anything, this is the podcast for you. I love not having to hear about politics and news and taking the time to enjoy the lighter and often funnier side of life.
-outer11, Podcast Alley

The quality of the podcast is first rate. The content is always entertaining and informative... This is two intelligent women with distinct points of view and a great sense of humour, always willing to admit that they don't always not what they're talking about.
- aloha.taboo, itunes United States

Completely AWESOME podcast of everyday life in Paris and some random silliness thrown in for fun.
- Lisa, Podcast Alley

fresh, fun and fabulous. these two crack me up. Pleasant voices, articulate, interesting comments on French culture, both personalities and accent complement each other well, interesting talks about cross-cultural issues and language. Too much talk about magic pens and stationary though... ;-)
- Mickelino, Podcast Alley

This is one of the funniest podcasts I listen to. Katia and Kylie Mac manage to butcher not just French but English at the same time. They have a ton of fun in this podcast and you can tell.

Thanks for the warm fuzzies, guys. You deserve an m&m for that effort. Two if you're lucky.
