k&k episode 122 - the one where they discuss singing in English... and stuff...
We're very excited about the 2008 edition of Nouvelle Star in episode 122, and we spent quite a bit of time talking about the new jury and poor attempts to sing in English, then we chat a bit about Kyliemac's debate topics in her oral language class, dubbing on television (again), text message ads, Katia's holiday plans in Venice, and president Sarkozy's hopes to get French cuisine listed as a Unesco world heritage item.
This episode was brought to you by the phrase "un gros mot" (a swear word).
We love Nouvelle Star. And do go check out Cindy "Brown"!
But The Simpsons in French? Hmm. Not so much.
Do you have advice to give Katia for her April holiday destination?
Sarkozy spot of the week : he wants to get French cuisine listed as a Unesco world heritage item. Hmmm...
ooo kyliemac - Prague is really nice. I had the chance to go in college and it was beautiful. I know its gotten more touristy now but is totally still unique and a place interesting to visit. one word of advice - if you are going to look at the famous clock there (can't remember the name of it) watch your purse. its crowded and mine almost got picked. =)
I'll be short and sweet this week ::wink:: good episode ladies - enjoyed it as always!
Hi K&K,
Here in Australia, they also have those kinds of ads where you will enter your name and the name of another person and check if the names match.
I've just entered the names Katia and Kyliemac on a matching mobile number and it said: "Terrible match, they secretly ant to erase each other with a magic pen".
Not very good eh?
I meant "want to erase". See the W has already been erased...
If I remember well, you broke out in an interpretive dance battle b/c of those two weird girls that were walking around a bench or something. And yeah, I suddenly had an urge to get away. :D
Re: The Simpsons - I for one appreciate that they tried to get as close as they could to an approximation of the original voices as they could. Short of asking the original actors to do it again in French, what do you want? Besides, the French don't know any different, and they didn't dub it for us. The dubbed voices on Futurama are also pretty close to the originals, except for the one Jamaican character ("Mon" just doesn't translate well lol).
As for dubbing on other tv shows.... that's a whole other kettle of fish (which stinks!).
I don't watch much TV but on those occasions when I have, I didn't see anything like you were talking about, so I guess it's not done in the US.
If you fly Easy Jet, watch out for the little "extras". I flew from Toulouse to Paris and I would have saved money by using Air France. They charged each of us €50 because we had two bags.

Have you looked at Easy Jet? It is really inexpensive for the both of you to fly to Venezia for the weekend. You will have the most romatic time of your life there! Don't forget to check Venere.com for reservations.
Have a fantastic time.
