k&k episode 146 - the one where they talk about living space... and stuff...

Kyliemac is busy working on her thesis which is due very shortly, so here is a little something we prepared earlier - episode 146 features the sultry tones of Kathryn, and together we talk about all sorts of things to do with living space in France - apartment hunting, layout and size (and we confuse each other greatly with the differences between feet and metres!), and we talk about the differences in housing expectations across the world.

show notes

Guest host : Kathryn

This episode was brought to you by the word "une maison" (a house).

I'm 32 and I live in a 30 sq meters flat... Parisian life sucks for this kind of facts. :-/

hello. my name is kylie, and i live in a 18m2 flat in paris, france.

next.

Hello, my name is Frog. When I lived in Thailand I had a 120 sq meter apartment with a pool and a maid. Then I moved to Paris, 32 sq meters with a rent three times higher than the Bangkok's apartment.

Plus no maid and the closest outdoor pool is in Spain.

Next...

well... don't be jealous but how about a 2300+ sq ft (220 sq meters) house with a nice swimming pool? no maid though. course by Dallas standards this is fairly average. we definitely have enough space to spread out in Texas and in my area depending on where you look, you can find a nice house for a good value. cost of living is pretty low here.

but it does make you think twice before moving into a MAYBE 100 sq mtr apartment in Italy that we can't afford to buy. how come my Italian didn't come with a villa in the country??

ha, i beat you both, i think mine is 14 or 15m2 AND there is a shared toilet. it's a big change from living in a large house in bretagne, lol. but hey, it's free!

and i would just like to say that yesterday marked the start of MY birthday month. let the celebrations begin!

Bob :

Our apartment in Fort Lauderdale is a bit more than 100 M2. We always complain about the size of the kitchen until we come over here. Our kitchen is about 7 M2.

Hoorah for birthday months!

btw, this is the only episode we're putting up for this week. We'll be only putting one up next week too, with Ms Kyliemac working hard on her thesis. Make sure you all send her lots of love and encouragement!

I have this book on apartments in Tokyo called 'Tokyo Style' and it is really interesting to see how creative people have gotten with utilising their space, or lack thereof..slightly concerning however that one person's bed was in the kitchen, next to the oven.

We are living in a pretty generous amount of space, it's actually a house, but it's in the middle of nowhere with no public transport so the isolation just isn't worth it so I'm very happy to move downtown and downsize to a small apartment if it means being within range of people!
