Ooh, the last two episodes were very innnnnteresting!

a)I learned the adoption is in progress and also that I could be half-Australian! ;)

b)I loved all the stories of misunderstandings and mispronunciations. I have a few stories about how preservatives in English does not directly translate into French, someone wishing someone something other than felicitations, rougir vs. rugir and boules vs. bulles. I will just have to save them for when I'm on the show! :)

3)Yes, I know I wrote 3 and not c, I'm crazy like that. I, like Kathryn, started French at 12 and the amount of things I learned that people NEVER say and then just plain incorrect things is astronomical. DC for CD, pompette for bourre, je voudrais un coca instead of je prends, etc etc.

My Italian speaks French so well - I just found out he never took any kind of formal studies just learned it. I spent 7 yrs studying it and mine sucks.lol It IS easier for them. sigh He also does the masculine/feminine thing in English - like he calls all kids "sons". Frequently I am explaining its not some macho - male chauvinist thing, just Italian.lol

I love it when he mispronounces things or gets some English wrong. I shouldn't I know, but its so cute. hehe and endearing. and sexy. LOL

Oh, I forgot to mention. I HATE the dubbing thing. Italians do that too and are so so proud of how good their dubbers are. But come on - until moving to the US, my Italian had never really heard the iconic voices of John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart,etc - actors who are absolutely recognized as much for their voices as anything else. Why do they do it? why? Is it the shear volume of Hollywood films? sigh

In V-town, we rarely got movies in VO. Things were almost always dubbed in French, unless they were having a special "foreign movie festival", and even then, it was the sort of weird movies, and never blockbusters.

Christophe has some of those very old English ways of speaking as well, like tempest for storm, he loves to say cranium (my cranium hurts!) and 'shall I fetch some water?'. I think it's great! But I find myself accidentally imitating his awkward English phrases...
