k&k episode 195 - the one where they talk about hugs and kisses... and stuff...
In episode 195 Katia gets excited about her new phone, the topic of Christmas decorations comes up again, Kyliemac gets excited about powerpoint presentations, and then we rant for quite some time about the differences between hugging and kissing and greetings in France and our respective countries, as well as acceptable kissing (as a greeting) techniques. And of course, because apparently we can't let an episode go by without discussing zombies, we ... discuss zombies. Again.
This episode was brought to you by the phrase "faire la bise" (a kiss (hello or goodbye) on the cheek).
I had to remove the flash player temporarily because the host server is a bit slow today - and the feed was picking up the presence of the flash player as the embedded media instead of the direct link to the mp3 file (this is important for itunes).
You can still listen to the episode by clicking on the link IN the show notes, where it's written "episode 195".
Hopefully the server will behave itself sooner rather than later and I'll be able to put the flash player up again.
@Katia: TMI! TMI!!! Although, the flashlight app did come in handy ;)
@kyliemac: thx for mentioning my iPod touch :)
@katia: Get the "word warp" game for iPod. Free, and cool :).
@kyliemac: In America also, "infidels" get better deals from telcos. Where do you think Orange Telecom etc. learnt their tricks from?
@K&K: Any way I can leave an audio comment?
I can't listen to the episode :(
@Animesh - you can leave us an audio comment on skype ;)
@Victoria - i had to disable the flash player temporarily - but you can click on the link "episode 195" on the text of the show notes and it will play the show :)
In regards to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, I have news for Kyliemac: In New York, they ALREADY are doing the same ish AND the store windows have Christmas things in 'em!!!
Supposedly, it's because of the economy and they're trying to urge people to start shopping now, but still. It's nuts!
hugs vs kisses. personally i am a hugger but i don't hug indiscriminately. some people you just feel an hug affinity with :)
I'd probably hug ya'll, so if you see me coming, be prepared. ha. Kissing is always more personal to me but honestly, i think its weird to get that intimate with strangers - whether its hugging or kissing.lol if you really think about it - isn't that weird?
after 7 yrs I still don't have the hang of the Italian "bise-ing.
After living in four countries I'm totally confused and yeah, mixed groups make it worse! I tend to hang back to see how people are planning to attack. :-)
I have to say I am extremely curious as to what my ringtone is....
As for the bise, my issue with it is - it's too personal/intimate. I guess that's very American (or maybe very Midwestern), but I need my personal space and I don't necessarily need people getting all up in it every time I see them. Especially strangers - the worst for me is having to go to a party where you don't know anyone and you have to go around and do the bise with 30 random people. I do it, because that's what they do here, but I get kind of anxious about it beforehand.
It's getting easier as time goes on, but I still feel silly bise-ing other anglos though, like we're trying to be all frou-frou or something. Like *mwah dahling*. And I can say with 100% certainty that I have never, ever in my life felt the urge to bise a non-French person in the US! :)
Awwwww I AM a hugger! Love it!
P.S. If you two don't deserve FREE Apple stuff after all that free publicity in the beginning, I don't know who does!
i'm just getting into podcasts, and i *love* yours... Kylie (?): your Australian O vowel is the most complex & fascinating sound. i believe you've crammed every other known vowel into it. it's not a diphthong, i believe it's a pentethong. i'm trying to deconstruct it. i believe the very last sound, the u, is close to a french u... keep it up :-)

I don't see the media!
