k&k episode 280 - the one where they talk about being on the walk of fame... and stuff...

Episode 280 starts off with a discussion of weather and tears, and then there's the thrill of unveiling a very exciting present from our friend and listener, Dani. We chat about blogging vs podcasting and how much we love listener feedback, and then we talk about some of the listener travel stories we've received lately (such as traveling extensively as a youngster and some of the culture shock involved in moving to another country that speaks the same language). We then discuss the eating of fondue and ice-cream, a dining experience in a Polish crypt (replete with perogies and what can only be described as a "live show"), and announce the opening of our friend's etsy shop, Suis le fil.

This episode was brought to you by the word "une crypte" (a crypt).

show notes

Dear : Emily Lafauxvaisienne

Dani sent us an AMAZING present - a Wall of Fame Star!

A unique dining experience is definitely the Polish Crypt (open only a few days a week so if you want to go, make sure you book!). But we can't guarantee you'll see a live show. Ahem.

Our dear friend Vivi has opened an Etsy shop, Suis le fil, filled with amazing knitted work. Go check it out!

Love ya ladies but not every expat have to go through Paris as part of their experience.. It sounds sooo Parisian to say that! That's why we make fun of you guys out in the country!

frog :

I agree Milky, I thought the same thing, like "What a Parisian thing to say" but let's face it, K&K have become more Parisian than the Parisians ;-) They're just one mini-step away from wearing scarves in summer and peeing on coke machines in the métro.

(I shoudn't have said that cos I KNOW I'm going to get an email from Katia that says that I'm a bitch, I always do)

You guys, thank you so much for your kind words!! Yes, the yarn is dyed with the same natural ingredients that were used before 1850 so the colors are period, as well as the motifs. :) Hope to see you again soon! xoxoxo

Totally agree with milkjam! Admittedly, my first French town was just 2000, then moved up to 9000 then finally 59 000. Don't think I'd want to go any bigger! In fact we just moved out of the centre ville of Niort to one of its quartiers to have a calmer life!

I was listening to the podcast driving to work this morning, thinking about Katia commenting on open spaces and the lack of them here. Well my 75km drive to work at about 6.30am with very few others on the road lets you see the open spaces here! Very pretty sunrises coming up over the chèvre fields in the Deux-Sèvres!

Also about chèvre fields and open roads and peeing - French men so do not hold it anywhere. Obviously in the metro on the coke machine, but seriously, every day driving home from work, in that 75km drive, there has got to be at least 5 or 6 men peeing on the side of the road. Now being Australian with really big open spaces and LONG distances between towns, we learnt to hold it as a kid! Threats from Mum & Dad "we're not stopping for another 2 hours, so you better go now!" Obviously not something that the French hear very often! I can understand when you are REALLY far from all towns, but this 75km drive I do - there are towns about every 10 minutes MAX! I even saw a guy peeing the other day as I was driving through the commerical zone at the edge of Niort. He was obviously hidden to the shoppers on the other side of the bush he had chosen, but for all the cars going past on the rocade, he definitely had the golden stream going Katia!

Also, from this episode, I thought - oh...my....god....I really have to stop by and actually make a comment. Been thinking I need to for a LOOOOOONG time but here I finally am K & K. Finally following on Twitter now too!

Yay that was me!!! Really can't believe that's what my voice sounds like...

I really liked the smaller town where I started out (approx pop. 60K). It was really cute and a decent size, but definitely not a place for a single american male. Paris life is definitely much better for my social life, but it is hard to admit at times I miss the "more authentic" French experience I got from my other town ... it definitely did wonders for improving my French!
