k&k episode 282 - the one where they talk about toe-niversaries and bejeweled championships... and stuff...
We start episode 282 by planting a seed of intrigue (what DO we have planned for the end of the year?), then we talk about receiving a super set of k&k coasters, toe-niversaries, what brings people to Paris in October, mobile phone use in schools and bejewelled addiction. We finish off with a discussion of beer and port and the power of marketing.
This episode was brought to you by the word "un porto" (Port).
speaking of mobile phones...my French teacher was going on and on about her kids talking on and texting on the phone while at the dinner table! AT THE DINNER TABLE. I said, "Just make them put it away" and she said, "Oh la la..." She said that to keep peace in the house she had to over-look it...but who is the parent here??
Okay, this doesn't actually have anything to do with the episode #282 but.. I was listening to ep. #38 and I'm devasted. Katia, how can you NOT finds Sacre-Coeur beautiful? I think it's just GORGEUS! I absolutely love, love, love it. Well, as you've established, it's not wrong, it's just different. ;)
Thank you K & K. Despite warnings, I was too curious and had to try bejeweled...now am addicted. Will have to stop playing at least to listen to the podcast today...if that is possible...
Just read that there is no live show today! Hope you feel better soon Katia!
Cell phones: I wasn't allowed to have one until I was driving, so until I was 16. But now kids here are getting them when they are 10! I think that's a bit extreme. Where is a child going at that age without a parent? And as for having them in school, I think that they can be handy for children that do sports and things after school, but totally not necessary. Once you are in high school I really don't see a problem with having them AT school, they just shouldn't be allowed to use them IN class. That's how it worked in my high school. Though we had classes of 10 people so it was hard to sneak around with a cell phone...
Bejeweled: I CAN'T GET HIGH SCORES WITH THE NEW VERSION! I can't seem to get over 120,000 now, with my track pad or my real mouse! :(
Re port: Good point about it being an apéro in France rather than a digestif. Do Katia's in-laws pour it into rockmelon halves? Does this happen anywhere apart from France?
Re liqueurs: Did you know that the Grand Marnier factory in Neauphle-le-Château does tours? It's not much of a tourist tip because it's not for the general public; you can't just rock up like at a cave de Champagne. But if you have some sort of social club and call a few weeks in advance then they'll give you a tour. (And sometimes smaller groups can tag along if another group has already booked.)
Oh Bejeweled! You did warn and I still couldn't stay away.. Now I'm completely addicted and constantly trying to beat my friends' scores.

Hey girlies! Oooh where to start...
Katia, you should ask your colleague how her mother managed to get through the day without knowing where she was every minute of the day. ;) (so yeah, you can guess where I land on this issue!)
We saw an ad the other day that was basically "Hey kids! Call this number and Pinocchio will read you a story!" As the mom of a young child, I am totally in favor of that law going through as well!
And Bejeweled... all I have to say is I will get you one day, Kylie Mac!! *shakes fist*
