k&k episode 286 - the one where they get confused about time changes... and stuff...
We get to chatting about many and varied things in episode 286, such as Daylight Savings and time changes across the world, the role that the Babysitters Club has played in Katia's understanding of American culture and the tv shows we watched when we were growing up. Kylie then tells us about going to a concert, how Spotify helped her appreciate it and going to Katiefornia's birthday party, then we talk about All Saints Day, Halloween and Disney, and we finish off with some fruit.
This episode was brought to you by the word "Toussaint" (All Saints Day).

I thought they changed it as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005? Not because of Halloween, but to supposedly save electricity. They changed both the spring forward and fall back dates. Seems like a silly concept, I wish it could just be the same time all year.
err, dear Katia, you apparently mixed things up. :)
Daylight saving wasn't meant to help farmers. On the contrary, they really don't like it as animals (having to be milked and/or fed) don't know what time of the day it is so the farmers' whole schedule is effed up.
Daylight savings was meant to address the energy crisis (esp. the 1973 oil crisis) by saving up energy because people tend to all get up around the same time (between 5 and 8) while they don't go to bed together (well that would be a big bed). So the difference in light used makes the electricity savings.
But now the benefits aren't as good as they used to be

We in my USA used to have daylight savings time around Oct 23, but changed it about 2 or 3 years ago because of Halloween. Now kids get to trick or treat when it is light out :(.
I used to read all of the Enid Blyton's books I could find. They aren't available in the US I think because they aren't politically correct. I luckily had a librarian that lent them to me. Kyliemac should read them.
