k&k episode 69 - the one where they talk about fluency in French... and stuff...

With the delightful Frog with a Blog chiming in with his witty remarks, in episode 69 we talk about adapting our accents, whether we consider ourselves fluent in French, and we also have a very thoughtful discussion about the phenomenon of reverse culture shock. Oh, and Katia makes a really big fool of herself, but you'll have to listen to find out how. (Show links)

Great episode! So very interesting about the reverse culture shock and the accent changing. I think my accent has totally changed since I have traveled more and my husband is not a native English speaker. I left you an audio comment but I don't know if it worked - it was kind of screwy. I love it when Frog is on - ya'll just make me laugh.Looking forward to hearing all about vacation tales.ciao ciaostacy

Thanks for this episode! I signed your Frappr map a bit ago and just had to comment this time to say I'm still LOVIN' the podcast and find so many things you guys talk about to be so very true. I definitely know as an American in France who speaks English with my British friend as well as the occasional French person, I think I sound like some American/British/French mutt. But, like Katia, once I get on the phone or spend some time with fam or friends back home, my old accent is back in no time. I also speak Franglais and besides that, I dabble in French literally translated into English. Things like "I have hunger", "that's abused", "I can't support people who profit of me", "the house of my friend", etc. I am very far from being pretentious, I just forget how to form sentences!PS-Glad to hear Katia's coight is pole-free. Hehe! :)

I'm behind, so I only just listened to this episode yesterday, but I wanted to comment about some of the reverse culture shock I experienced moving back to the States two years ago (before moving back to France).1) All the high fructose corn syrup in everything! You can't avoid it in salad dressing, ketchup, yogurt, it's everywhere and food is so much more sugary than in France2) All the tv commercials. Every 3 minutes there's a commercial break, and you forget about that watching French tv that only has commercials before or after a show3) Patriotic propaganda: the national anthem at a sporting event really seems like patriotic overkill after living in France. What does a football game have to do with the government anyway? My two cents!
