k&k episode 88 - the one where they talk about that glorious French institution : the strike... and stuff...

We are off to slightly rocky start for episode 88, but we're nothing if not supremely professional podcasters and we take it in our stride. Yes... Anyway, after a long discussion about fancy dress parties vs costume parties, we get on the subject of strikes and the general crazyness that hit Paris with the strikes at the end of last week. We also get into a bit of gossip about the Sarkozy Divorce, and talk about scandals in the worldwide media. (Show links)

This episode was brought to you by the word "une gr竣e" (a strike).

Re: the secret love lives of Presidents and the media - I think it's twofold. First of all, they say that 50% of French men & women have had affairs - that's a huge number! So how could they sit back and judge their president for doing the exact same thing?Secondly, up until recently, presidents' private lives have always been off-limits. But I do think that they are becoming more and more American in that sense and that in the future, we'll see them getting a lot more involved (ie. tabloid-y) in their lives.PS. Sarko isn't actually the first president to divorce while in office - Napolean divorced Josephine because she "couldn't" give him a son!

Oops, sorry, I mean to say that Napoleon was the first French leader to divorce, not president!

I can just imagine all these tourists arriving in Paris and not knowing what the heck to do since the B line was not working. What a way to welcome those visitors to France. How aggravating for everyone.P.S. If I saw "fancy dress" on a party invite, I would probably show up in a dress and then be the laugh of the party...like BJ.

I want a shout out for telling Mrs.B & Elemm about you guys. IT WAS ME! I was like, hey, you HAVE to listen to this podcast. Well hell. I tell everyone to listen to you two. And now y'all are in lurve! I'm off to dye and catch up on the last few. I listened to 4 straight podcasts the other day. I'm a K & K junkie. Oh that reminds me. I want to donate to the Tricot du coeur!

on the bright side of the strike and a total lack of transportation for a whole week, i hadn't gotten that much exercise all year!
