k&k episode 97 - the one where they talk about blockages... and stuff...
We have the magnificent Kimmeh in the coffee table studio for episode 97, and we're a bit excited because we've got a fantastically interesting voicemail from a listener. We chat about Thanksgiving and traditions, Kim tells us all about the Very Dramatic Student Strikes that have held her University hostage for the last few weeks, then we discuss the effects of the ongoing public transport strikes and suspected sabotage. As we are wont to do, we also get a bit excited and distracted by random anecdotes and other things like that, but that's really just par for the course. (Show links)
This episode was brought to you by the word "une drame" (a drama).
I can't imagine school strikes. I remember last time the French students did that but it doesnt mean much over here until you hear personal accounts on how it affected people's lives. And I can't believe you played my whole message. UGH I sounded crappy.lol thanks girls! I might have to rethink those peeps. ::wink::
I am SO starting my own podcast, just so I can get people to send me free peeps!
Okay, apparently I was wrong. It was not the Parisians that got their panties all up in knots. Department 75 was originally called "Seine." It was actually our good olde "Seine Maritime" that used to be called "Seine InfŽrieure".Which makes more sense, considering Paris is the center of all things governmental and probably wouldn't have stood for being "infŽrieure" in anything. But yeah. I managed to make myself sound like a dork.
Poor darling Kimmeh! Don't worry I for one still love you anyway. As said above, the original dŽpartement for Paris was Seine number 75 and Seine et Oise was number 78. But in the 60s some smart ass thought it was more fun to create new small and useless dŽpartements out of parts of 75 and 78. That's when the new tiny and very scary dŽpartements (no 91, 92, 93, 94 and 95) were created. No 78 remained as the Yvelines although it doesn't really fit in the alphabetical order. Anyway, I'm just a geek I know! I looooooved hearing Texas Expresso's little intervention, I love her accent too! And it was so much fun hearing your reaction as she spoke.Bisous

Ile de France is the region where Paris is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Ele-de-France_%28region%29Excellent show as usual.:-)
