k&k episode 345 - the one where they talk about chores and things to do... and stuff...

In episode 345 we continue talking about language and regional differences, then we discuss what chores we did as children and the ways we got out of doing chores, Kylie gives us a paper translation update, we chat about some of the things we want to do around Paris and France this summer and for the first time in ages we do a WITWATAP update!

In episode 344, after an email from Phil, we spend the entire show talking about language : how our language has changed since living away from our native countries, what we and the people around us think of these changes, the evolution of language, various methods of retaining or keeping up with language changes in our respective countries despite the distance, and what constitutes pretentiousness.

k&k episode 341 - the one where they talk about love locks, strikes and words... and stuff...

In episode 341 we try to find a solution for Katia's voicemail dilemma, then chat about some things that have been in the news lately - the love lock drama on the Pont des Arts and students striking about a phantom holiday change! Kylie tells us how her paper translation is going, which leads to a lengthy discussion about translating certain words and the misuse and overuse of certain English words in French (and vice versa).

Things get heated in episode 336 as we debate the use of the words "allergies" and "hayfever", then we get to chatting about May Day, manifestations, national holidays, itunes and movies. Katia calls out Kyliemac for not having seen any French movies lately, then we get to talking about museums and attempts to get cultured.

We're rather excited in episode 332 as we discuss the upcoming celebration for episode 333! We chat about Kylie's allergies, then it's updates all around with surgery and university news, followed by tales of robberies, encounters with tech guys and Kylie tells us what the Gruesome Twosome think of the podcast.

k&k episode 276 - the one where they talk about dates and kissing... or not... and stuff...

It's a descent into pure chaos in episode 276 - we talk about alternative meanings of the word "date" and naughtyness in the live chat, la rentrée, post office revolutions, the french kissing ban and we suggest some k&k alternative greetings (with sound effects). We talk about meeting up with listeners and speculate on the bachelorette bidding, finishing off with some exciting voicemails.

As requested, things get gossipy in episode 219 when as we talk about Carla Bruni's plans to have a baby, which leads to a lengthy discussion about our friend Kimmeh's current dilemma - trying to choose a baby name that is pronouncable in both English and French. We also get to chatting about refrigerators and food expos.

k&k episode 211 - the one where they rant about courants d'air... and stuff...

Episode 211 is one of those episodes where one derailment leads to another which leads to another and then it all goes downhill from there. We talk about all sorts of things : snow, scarves, mini-skirts, courants d'air (drafts), overheating and slippers. This all leads to a tutoyer and vousvoyer debate, which leads to a discussion of how people should correct us when we speak French. We then talk about webbed toes, work doctors and strike days. It's a little bit of everything!

k&k episode 209 - the one where they learn about foot fishing... and stuff...

We start off episode 209 by talking about an American expression that Katia is confused about, then Kylie talks about her New Years Eve experience, and Katia recounts the trip that she and the Muffin Man took to Brittany, which involved much seafood, fishing and giant rocks. But no marshmallows. Oh, and we have a guest. But he wasn't really supposed to be there.

k&k episode 208 - the one where they geek out over buffy... and stuff...

We get seriously geeky in episode 208, and in the guise of doing one of Kylie's University Updates, we spend a very considerable amount of time talking about Buffy, Angel and everything in between. Then, at around about the 20 minute mark, we actually talk about some relevant things, like snow... and stuff... And we excitedly open a goodie box sent to us by our lovely friend Dani!

k&k episode 179 - the one where they continue discussing the link between personality and language... and stuff...

After the interesting discussions we had in episode 177, we decided to get Sigmund Frog in the CTS for episode 179, to talk about the ways we communicate and how we get our personalities across in French vs English. We do an intervention and reassure Kylie that her French is much better than she thinks, we talk for a long time about the definition of fluency and bilingualism, Frog talks about his own experiences in Swedish, English and French, and he also makes some interesting observations about the way we all speak French.

k&k episode 177 - the one where they discuss the link between personality and language... and stuff...

Inspired by a blog post by Justin, we get reflective in episode 177, talking about the link between personality and language. We talk about how hard it can be to learn a language, the importance of humour, the challenges in getting ones personality across, and how comfortable we feel "being ourselves" in French. We round up the episode rather flippantly with a discussion of the many and varied rules of chinking in France.

Kathryn and Séb (yes! we managed to convince him!) are with us in the Coffee Table Studio for episode 164 (yet again a little something we prepared earlier)! We chat about some of our experiences learning French and we talk about the importance of native speakers when learning a language, then Kathryn and Séb, as a Franco-American couple, tell us some stories about some of the language barriers they faced when they were first going out.

In episode 152, we read a postcard we received from one of our favourite brits and kylie shows us one of her senior year pictures, then we discuss some of the highlights of the k&k picnic, including encounters with fishermen, displays of superpowers and meeting lovely new listeners and catching up with old favourites. We get excited about a review someone left about Learn French on itunes, then Kylie tells us some stories involving hearing certain Learn French phrases in use, and we discuss translating certain English expressions into French and our different experiences of native speakers correcting our French. We wrap up the episode with an update on Kyliemac's thesis results and a quick discussion about Disney.

k&k episode 141 - the one where they discuss the price of chilli sauce in France... and stuff...

Episode 141 starts off with Rhino75's adorably English accent and Katia getting mighty confused over the origins of Br'er Rabbit and Kyliemac telling us which was her favourite Judy Blume book. We have a chat with Steve about his reasons for staying in France, his experiences in moving here and his connections with the stars and theatrical predilections, then we talk about the Green Card Lottery, spam, teaching English, dissecting language and literature and tenses, and the way that the French language is taught in schools as opposed to the way English is taught in schools. Steve then tells us a little bit about his perception of "culture shock" and "reverse culture shock", and just after we talk about the price of chilli sauce in Paris and the concept of "home", we think about telling you all a secret. You'll have to listen to find out what it is!

We're very excited about the 2008 edition of Nouvelle Star in episode 122, and we spent quite a bit of time talking about the new jury and poor attempts to sing in English, then we chat a bit about Kyliemac's debate topics in her oral language class, dubbing on television (again), text message ads, Katia's holiday plans in Venice, and president Sarkozy's hopes to get French cuisine listed as a Unesco world heritage item.

k&k episode 115 - the one where they reveal what's been up their sleevesies... and stuff...

Episode 115 is a bit exciting for us (as we exclaim 60 million times during the episode, wanna count?), because we're revealing what's been up our sleevesies for the last few months. New site! New look! New podcasts for your listening pleasure! Then after we rant about all these things for a while, we get into the usual stuff : a discussion of sales in France, shopping and pronounciations of certain words, then we revisit the topic of crêpes for a bit. (ps. it's a pity we found out about Sarkozy's wedding AFTER we casted this weeks episodes, but never fear, lovely peeps, we'll be plunging ourselves into the gossip next week!)

k&k episode 106 - the one where they argue about the meaning of words... again... and stuff...

One of our favourite episodes is one from quite some time ago (episode 5 to be exact), and it was all about Words - the different words we use in our respective countries for the same things. In this extra-long holiday special of the podcast, we decide to revisit this much-loved topic, and spend quite a bit of time arguing about the different words we use in reference to food. So get yourself comfortable and listen to the animated discussion in episode 106!

We tend to make some sweeping generalisations about France and the French on this show, so it's nice to get a "real" Frenchman in to set us straight occasionally. With Tracey and Pierre back in the CTS, we chat about some interesting topics in episode 104, such as the pronounciation and choice of names in English and French, English classes and learning English in France, and for some strange and unknown reason, we deviate completely from the topic in true k&k style and talk about the phenomenon that is "French judge school".
