k&k episode 490 - the one where they wonder why movie titles are translated from English... to English... and stuff...

In episode 490 we ask PH a question that has been on the lips of every anglophone who has ever seen a movie poster: why are English movie titles sometimes renamed into English? (instead of into French, which would be logical...!) He tells us all about the historical precedents for renaming things, we discuss what shows are popular here in France, then we get very distracted by swag.

k&k episode 487 - the one where they wonder whether the French like learning languages... and stuff...

In episode 487 we chat with Frog about the subject of advertising on major monuments and whether the French have a propensity for language learning. We wonder whether the French consider learning languages as important and if this has changed over the years, and consider the impact the French style of teaching has on the ability or desire to learn.

k&k episode 485 - the one where they talk about what's on French tv... and stuff...

In episode 485 we continue chatting with PH, member of the comdey troupe, the Comité de la Claque, and we learn all about how a television show like theirs is produced in France, the process of writing and creating, what their influences are and what's on French tv!

k&k episode 484 - the one where they talk about movie spoofs... in French... and stuff...

We're thrilled to welcome PH, member of the comedy troupe Comité de la Claque, back to the studio in episode 484! He tells us all about what he's been up to lately, including appearing on national television for three straight months!

k&k episode 465 - the one where they talk about wine cellars and cross-cultural games... and stuff...

In episode 465 we continue to get silly with Frog, and Katia talks about discovering an amazing wine cellar filled with history, which leads to a discussion about the physical impact of the various world war on France, then we talk about the difficulties of finding party games that can be played in mixed culture/language groups.

k&k episode 454 - the one where they drink margaritas on Bastille Day and pose a language challenge... and stuff...

In episode 454 we recount what happened at the 5th Annual k&k Bastille Day picnic (including margaritas, out of town visitors, helicopters and men falling from the sky), then we discuss meeting up with a listener from Belgium, how to be disciplined enough to practice different languages with the same people, and we throw down a language challenge for the summer holidays.

k&k episode 448 - the one where they discuss listening to the news... slowly... and stuff...

In episode 448 we talk about how easy it is to learn a language by listening to the news, and we discuss whether podcasts providing slower versions of spoken news are beneficial to language learners. This leads to a lengthy discussion about watching movies and television, and the pros and cons of subtitles.

k&k episode 439 - the one where they talk about getting corrected... and stuff...

In episode 439, after dealing a packet of m&ms, talking about awesome listeners and the upcoming k&k App, we get to talking about language: how our respective understanding of the French language is improving, whether we feel comfortable speaking French, what we are doing to improve our language skills... And all this leads to a discussion of how to correct people who are learning a language - how other people correct us in French, and how we correct others in English.

k&k episode 436 - the one where they continue to discuss bringing up bilingual children... and stuff...

In episode 436 we pick up where we left off in the previous episode, as we discuss with Kim what it's like to try to raise a bilingual child. We talk at length about strategies, challenges and techniques, we wonder what kinds of challenges she might encounter as her son gets older, then we debate whether or not it is difficult for teachers to teach children who don't speak the school's main language.

k&k episode 435 - the one where they discuss naughty peeps & bringing up bilingual children... and stuff...

We're excited to welcome Kim back to the k&k fold for episode 435, and we talk about receiving goodies from listeners and having adventures at an outdoors Food & Wine Fair. With Kim's perspective as a new mum, we then have a lengthy chat about what it's like to raise a bilingual child in France - the techniques they're using and why.

k&k episode 407 - the one where they talk about jetlag and touching jellyfish... and stuff...

In episode 407 Katia postulates a theory about jetlag, then tells all about her trip back to Australia over the holiday period, including what movies she watched on the plane, how awesome it was to hug her niece, what they ate for Christmas, hanging out with Philexis, New Years Eve, whether the Muffin Man resisted touching weird Australian creatures, spending time with Tracey & Pierrick, how her mum called her out on certain "un-Australian" vocabulary, cultural cringe, and playing a HUGE amount of Sequence.

k&k episode 380 - the one where they talk about going back to school and language exchanges... and stuff...

In episode 380 Kylie tells us all about her recent return to school and her French learning goals for the year, as well as her fascinating adventures with the language exchange at the Cercle International de l'Arc. We talk about Kylie's tv dramas and her recent gastronomic excursion to the salon Pari Fermier.

k&k episode 376 - the one where they talk about learning english with friends... and stuff...

We continue our conversation with the charming PH (of Comité de la Claque and Green Paradise) in episode 376, and chat about learning English: what his teachers were like at school (and the importance of good teachers), his motivation for learning the language, the different anglo countries he has visited (and he shares with us some unique methods for learning the language) and the various experiences he had in these countries.

k&k episode 345 - the one where they talk about chores and things to do... and stuff...

In episode 345 we continue talking about language and regional differences, we discuss what chores we did as children and the ways we got out of doing chores, Kylie gives us a paper translation update, we chat about some of the things we want to do around Paris and France this summer and we do a WITWATAP update!

k&k episode 344 - the one where they talk about accents, words and pretentiousness... and stuff...

In episode 344, after an email from Phil, we spend the entire show talking about language : how our language has changed since living away from our native countries, what we and the people around us think of these changes, the evolution of language, various methods of retaining or keeping up with language changes in our respective countries, and what constitutes pretentiousness.

k&k episode 341 - the one where they talk about love locks, strikes and words... and stuff...

In episode 341 we try to find a solution for Katia's voicemail dilemma, then chat about the love lock drama on the Pont des Arts and students striking about a phantom holiday change! Kylie tells us how her paper translation is going, which leads to a lengthy discussion about translating certain words and the misuse and overuse of certain English words in French (and vice versa).

k&k episode 336 - the one where they discuss allergies, may day and movies... and stuff...

Things get heated in episode 336 as we debate the use of the words "allergies" and "hayfever", then we get to chatting about May Day, manifestations, national holidays, itunes and movies. Katia calls out Kyliemac for not having seen any French movies lately, then we talk about museums and attempts to get cultured.

k&k episode 332 - the one where they rant about customer service and allergies... and stuff...

We're rather excited in episode 332 as we discuss the upcoming celebration for episode 333! We chat about the info sheet and the various prizes up for grabs as part of the 333 celebration, and about our brand new mike flags (thanks to Canadian Peter!), then we go on a customer service rant and get sidetracked by a discussion about American English. We chat about Kylie's allergies, then it's updates all around with surgery and university news, followed by tales of robberies, encounters with tech guys and Kylie tells us what the Gruesome Twosome think of the podcast.

k&k episode 276 - the one where they talk about dates and kissing... or not... and stuff...

It's a descent into pure chaos in episode 276 - we talk about alternative meanings of the word "date" and naughtyness in the live chat, la rentrée, post office revolutions, the french kissing ban, k&k alternative greetings, meeting up with listeners, bachelorette bidding and some exciting voicemails.

k&k episode 265 - the one where they talk about exchanging languages... and stuff...

Frog graciously deigned to help us out for episode 265, as we discuss learning language beyond the traditional classroom experience : through language exchanges. We talk about how to get the most out of a language exchange, how to find a good language partner and what, and how such experiences have helped each of us learn languages.

k&k episode 262 UNPLUGGED - the one where they talk about noisy heads and amusement parks... and stuff...

We're pleased to present the first k&k UNPLUGGED for the summer in episode 262. We discuss a multitude of topics : noisy heads, crayons and learn french, accomodation hunts, amusement parks and earworms.

k&k episode 225 - the one where they work on their pronounciation... and stuff...

Chaos ensues in episode 225, as we start off with a very special "dear", and we discuss maths, toes, social comas, toilet lights, spiders, words and wankers, accents, babies, peeps and presents.

k&k episode 219 - the one where they try to name the kid... and stuff...

As requested, things get gossipy in episode 219 when as we talk about Carla Bruni's plans to have a baby, which leads to a lengthy discussion about our friend Kimmeh's current dilemma - trying to choose a baby name that is pronouncable in both English and French. We also get to chatting about refrigerators and food expos.

k&k episode 211 - the one where they rant about courants d'air... and stuff...

Episode 211 is one of those episodes where one derailment leads to another which leads to another and then it all goes downhill from there: snow, scarves, mini-skirts, courants d'air (drafts), overheating and slippers. This all leads to a tutoyer and vousvoyer debate, which leads to a discussion of how people should correct us when we speak French. We then talk about webbed toes, work doctors and strike days.

k&k episode 209 - the one where they learn about foot fishing... and stuff...

We start off episode 209 by talking about an American expression that Katia is confused about, then Kylie talks about her New Years Eve experience, and Katia recounts the trip that she and the Muffin Man took to Brittany, involving seafood, fishing and giant rocks. Oh, and we have a guest. But he wasn't really supposed to be there.

k&k episode 208 - the one where they geek out over buffy... and stuff...

We get seriously geeky in episode 208, and in the guise of doing one of Kylie's University Updates, we spend a very considerable amount of time talking about Buffy, Angel and everything in between. Then we actually talk about some relevant things, like snow... and stuff... and we excitedly open a goodie box sent to us by our lovely friend Dani!

k&k episode 179 - the one where they continue discussing the link between personality and language... and stuff...

After the interesting discussions we had in episode 177, we decided to get Sigmund Frog in the CTS for episode 179, to talk about the ways we communicate and how we get our personalities across in French vs English. We do an intervention and reassure Kylie that her French is much better than she thinks, we talk for a long time about the definition of fluency and bilingualism, Frog talks about his own experiences in Swedish, English and French, and he also makes some interesting observations about the way we all speak French.

k&k episode 177 - the one where they discuss the link between personality and language... and stuff...

Inspired by a blog post by Justin, we get reflective in episode 177, talking about the link between personality and language. We talk about how hard it can be to learn a language, the importance of humour, the challenges in getting ones personality across, and how comfortable we feel "being ourselves" in French. We round up the episode rather flippantly with a discussion of the many and varied rules of chinking in France.

k&k episode 164 - the one where they share some of their language learning adventures... and stuff...

Kathryn and Séb (yes! we managed to convince him!) are with us in the Coffee Table Studio for episode 164 (yet again a little something we prepared earlier)! We chat about some of our experiences learning French and we talk about the importance of native speakers when learning a language, then Kathryn and Séb, as a Franco-American couple, tell us some stories about some of the language barriers they faced when they were first going out.

k&k episode 159 - the one where they speculate on why there are so many French people living in America... and stuff...

Victoria is still with us for episode 159, where we talk about intern applications, Gladiators, strange coincidences and what our dads like to do. Victoria then tells us all about her French learning experience, which derails into a discussion about english vs. american words, different book releases for different countries and being corrected in French, then Kylie and Victoria tell us about a unique garden museum visit they had and we discuss Victoria's first rhum-rhum experience.

k&k episode 152 - the one where they reveal the special powers of the disney poncho... and stuff...

In episode 152, we read a postcard we received from one of our favourite brits and kylie shows us one of her senior year pictures, then we discuss some of the highlights of the k&k picnic, including encounters with fishermen, displays of superpowers and meeting lovely new listeners and catching up with old favourites. We get excited about a review someone left about Learn French on itunes, then Kylie tells us some stories involving hearing certain Learn French phrases in use, and we discuss translating certain English expressions into French and our different experiences of native speakers correcting our French. We wrap up the episode with an update on Kyliemac's thesis results and a quick discussion about Disney.

k&k episode 141 - the one where they discuss the price of chilli sauce in France... and stuff...

Episode 141 starts off with Rhino75's adorably English accent and Katia getting mighty confused over the origins of Br'er Rabbit and Kyliemac telling us which was her favourite Judy Blume book. We have a chat with Steve about his reasons for staying in France, his experiences in moving here and his connections with the stars and theatrical predilections, then we talk about the Green Card Lottery, spam, teaching English, dissecting language and literature and tenses, and the way that the French language is taught in schools as opposed to the way English is taught in schools. Steve then tells us a little bit about his perception of "culture shock" and "reverse culture shock", and just after we talk about the price of chilli sauce in Paris and the concept of "home", we think about telling you all a secret.
