In episode 485 we continue chatting with PH, member of the comdey troupe, the Comité de la Claque, and we learn all about how a television show like theirs is produced in France, the process of writing and creating, what their influences are and what's on French tv!

k&k episode 484 - the one where they talk about movie spoofs... in French... and stuff...

We're thrilled to welcome PH, member of the comedy troupe Comité de la Claque, back to the studio in episode 484! He tells us all about what he's been up to lately, including appearing on national television for three straight months!

k&k episode 475 - the one where they remember what it was like at the beginning... and stuff...

Things get real in episode 475 as we discuss how to help people and empathise with people who have just arrived in a new country without sounding like know-it-alls. We also talk about what was like when we first arrived in France - the difficulties we faced, the challenges we had to overcome, and how we came through the other side - and chat about how far we've come (or not come, depending on how you look at it).

In episode 454 we recount what happened at the 5th Annual k&k Bastille Day picnic (including margaritas, out of town visitors, helicopters and men falling from the sky), then we discuss meeting up with a listener from Belgium, how to be disciplined enough to practice different languages with the same people, and we throw down a language challenge for the summer holidays.

In episode 448 we talk about how easy it is to learn a language by listening to the news, and we discuss whether podcasts providing slower versions of spoken news are beneficial to language learners. This leads to a lengthy discussion about watching movies and television, and the pros and cons of subtitles.

In episode 439, after dealing a packet of m&ms, talking about awesome listeners and the upcoming k&k App, we get to talking about language: how our respective understanding of the French language is improving, whether we feel comfortable speaking French, what we are doing to improve our language skills... And all this leads to a discussion of how to correct people who are learning a language - how other people correct us in French, and how we correct others in English.

k&k episode 436 - the one where they continue to discuss bringing up bilingual children... and stuff...

In episode 436 we pick up where we left off in the previous episode, as we discuss with Kim what it's like to try to raise a bilingual child. We talk at length about strategies, challenges and techniques, we wonder what kinds of challenges she might encounter as her son gets older, then we debate whether or not it is difficult for teachers to teach children who don't speak the school's main language.

We're excited to welcome Kim back to the k&k fold for episode 435, and we talk about receiving goodies from listeners and having adventures at an outdoors Food & Wine Fair. With Kim's perspective as a new mum, we then have a lengthy chat about what it's like to raise a bilingual child in France - the techniques they're using and why.

In episode 391 we have a long chat about what Kylie is doing this year to improve her French - from her classes at La Sorbonne and the language exchange at Arc, to seeing movies in French and watching French tv. We're rather excited in episode 347, as we get distracted by a discussion of what kind of tricycles we had when we were small, then Kylie tells us all about handing in her paper and defending her thesis. Katia talks about the apartment hunt, boats, racist people and crazy meetings.

In episode 344, after an email from Phil, we spend the entire show talking about language : how our language has changed since living away from our native countries, what we and the people around us think of these changes, the evolution of language, various methods of retaining or keeping up with language changes in our respective countries, and what constitutes pretentiousness.

k&k episode 341 - the one where they talk about love locks, strikes and words... and stuff...

In episode 341 we try to find a solution for Katia's voicemail dilemma, then chat about the love lock drama on the Pont des Arts and students striking about a phantom holiday change! Kylie tells us how her paper translation is going, which leads to a lengthy discussion about translating certain words and the misuse and overuse of certain English words in French (and vice versa).

We've got the lovely SarahTexasSarah and Gui in the k&k boudoir for episode 323 where, after a chat about our recent fascinating descent into the smelly Paris Sewers, we talk about how Sarah found herself in France and with a Frenchman. We discuss getting married, what it's like to "move countries", the difficulties of learning the language and deciding what country to live in as an "international couple", and what it's like to live so far away from family.

In episode 294 we're a bit delirious, and get to chatting about the new k&k forum, spankings and reading in French, then Kylie gives us a movie update and we natter about tv shows again.

We start off episode 291 by determining whether Kylie has ebola or not, then we chat about her recent visit to the Maison de Balzac and the prefecture, we talk about meeting listeners and the birthday month of November, Katia recounts visiting the Musée de l'Automobile in Mulhouse and we finish off with an update on Kylie's French movie-going experience.

We talk about how to get the most out of a language exchange, how to find a good language partner and what, and how such experiences have helped each of us learn languages.

Episode 211 is one of those episodes where one derailment leads to another which leads to another and then it all goes downhill from there: snow, scarves, mini-skirts, courants d'air (drafts), overheating and slippers. This all leads to a tutoyer and vousvoyer debate, which leads to a discussion of how people should correct us when we speak French. We then talk about webbed toes, work doctors and strike days.

It's pure k&k goodness in episode 199, as we engage in discussions about our favourite m&ms, the advantages of carrying around a crutch, thanksgiving in France and how to find a turkey in Paris. We revisit the hugging and kissing debate, then Kyliemac tells Katia all about Black Friday sales, and we talk about snow, Christmas decorations, caroling at Notre Dame and Christmas wishlists. After the interesting discussions we had in episode 177, we decided to get Sigmund Frog in the CTS for episode 179, to talk about the ways we communicate and how we get our personalities across in French vs English. We do an intervention and reassure Kylie that her French is much better than she thinks, we talk for a long time about the definition of fluency and bilingualism, Frog talks about his own experiences in Swedish, English and French, and he also makes some interesting observations about the way we all speak French.

k&k episode 178 - the one where they relish the verbal love... and stuff...

We're all about the verbal love in episode 178, as we review a few voicemails and emails we've received from listeners over the last couple of weeks (and get distracted by stories, but what's new?). Kyliemac gives us a university update, and Katia talks about some of her mum's adventures learning French.

Inspired by a blog post by Justin, we get reflective in episode 177, talking about the link between personality and language. We talk about how hard it can be to learn a language, the importance of humour, the challenges in getting ones personality across, and how comfortable we feel "being ourselves" in French. We round up the episode rather flippantly with a discussion of the many and varied rules of chinking in France.

Kathryn and Séb (yes! we managed to convince him!) are with us in the Coffee Table Studio for episode 164 (yet again a little something we prepared earlier)! We chat about some of our experiences learning French and we talk about the importance of native speakers when learning a language, then Kathryn and Séb, as a Franco-American couple, tell us some stories about some of the language barriers they faced when they were first going out.

Victoria is still with us for episode 159, where we talk about intern applications, Gladiators, strange coincidences and what our dads like to do. In episode 152, we read a postcard we received from one of our favourite brits and kylie shows us one of her senior year pictures, then we discuss some of the highlights of the k&k picnic, including encounters with fishermen, displays of superpowers and meeting lovely new listeners and catching up with old favourites. We get excited about a review someone left about Learn French on itunes, then Kylie tells us some stories involving hearing certain Learn French phrases in use, and we discuss translating certain English expressions into French and our different experiences of native speakers correcting our French. We wrap up the episode with an update on Kyliemac's thesis results and a quick discussion about Disney.

k&k episode 141 - the one where they discuss the price of chilli sauce in France... and stuff...

Episode 141 starts off with Rhino75's adorably English accent and Katia getting mighty confused over the origins of Br'er Rabbit and Kyliemac telling us which was her favourite Judy Blume book. We have a chat with Steve about his reasons for staying in France, his experiences in moving here and his connections with the stars and theatrical predilections, then we talk about the Green Card Lottery, spam, teaching English, dissecting language and literature and tenses, and the way that the French language is taught in schools as opposed to the way English is taught in schools. Steve then tells us a little bit about his perception of "culture shock" and "reverse culture shock", and just after we talk about the price of chilli sauce in Paris and the concept of "home", we think about telling you all a secret.
